There probably is some hypocrisy in condemning cheap junk food vs. elite gourmet junk food, but I don’t think it is the class statement the author thinks it is. People should always be encouraged to eat healthier. Anything (except some absurd legislation banning junk food) that can fight the combined forces of economy, commercialism, and convenience of junk food should be done. Wealthy people can afford a greater variety of nutritional choices, including snobby junk food. Poor people can also eat very healthy for very cheap, but their options are more restricted, and the unhealthy options more readily available and more convenient. I saw a mom recently feeding her small child Mountain Dew and Flaming Hot Cheetos for breakfast. I don’t think the proper reaction to that scene is “Hey, that’s their right, what kind of an elite hypocrite am I to judge the appropriateness of that meal?”
